| Coverage notes | Bumper-to-bumper 4 yr / 50,000 mi | 2 yr / 20,000 mi complimentary factory scheduled maintenance |
Notes: lincoln.com doesn’t list the Aviator’s transmission in the sections we checked, so confirm it on the window sticker. Lincoln’s spec table and FAQ give 75.9 cu ft behind the first row, but a highlights module on the same page says 77.7, so we use 75.9. Volvo lists cargo two ways and calls its power figures preliminary. The two brands measure cargo differently, so the cargo row isn’t apples to apples. Put your own stroller, golf bags or coolers in both.
Power and the Las Vegas freeway merge
Aviator: lincoln.com lists 400 hp and 415 lb-ft from the standard twin-turbo 3.0L V6, with a 0–60 time of 5.9 seconds. (Lincoln notes a 383-hp rating in certain states that require its 50-state emissions system. Nevada isn’t on that list.) Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.
XC90: Volvo’s gas models are mild hybrids that pair a four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt system. The B5 makes 247 hp and the B6 makes 295 hp, both with AWD. A plug-in hybrid version is also offered.
Las Vegas take: If you merge onto the 215 or I-15 with a full third row, or you tow a boat to Lake Mead, the Aviator’s V6 is the stronger number on paper. If most of your miles are Summerlin-to-Henderson errands and you’d like better EPA estimates, the XC90 mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid deserves a test drive.
Third row, cargo and family life
| Use case | Lean Aviator when… | Lean XC90 when… |
|---|---|---|
| Carpool with kids in row three | You want the PowerFold third row (two seats) and the longer 119.1-in wheelbase | You want individually reclining seats in all three rows (per Volvo) |
| Airport runs to Harry Reid | You want Lincoln’s published 16.5 cu ft behind the third row | You’ll test-load bags behind Volvo’s third row first |
| Lake Mead weekends | You want the V6, RWD or AWD, and a 5,000-lb tow rating | 5,000 lbs is enough and you prefer a hybrid |
| Summer heat | You want available heated and ventilated 30-way Perfect Position front seats | You’ll compare ventilated seats on the Ultra level (per Volvo) |
Heat tip: sit in both after they’ve been parked in the sun. How fast the cabin cools, how the seats feel and whether the screens wash out in glare matter more in Las Vegas than most brochure lines.
